Breast Reduction: The aim of this surgery
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure for reducing the size of large breasts.
For overweight patient’s, requiring reduction mammoplasty , loosing weight before the surgical procedure , is essential. This is to avoid relaxation after the operation.
Also a subsequent pregnancy can adversely affect the shape of the breast .
Description of surgery
The operation is permormed under general anesthesia.
Before the operation,the breasts should be measured and mark on the skin the direction of future insicions .
In large breasts loose the ” drooping ” nipples should be repositioned at the appropriate height.
Special operative techniques are possible in some cases to maintain the continuity of the mammary gland to nipple, and to preserve the breast feeding ability of young women .
This is not so for very large fatty breasts. In very large fatty breasts.

The breasts must be kept in a fixed position with a special bra , which has to be warm day and night for 3 months , for helping the healing process .
After a period of about 3 months the desired results can be observed.

Possible complications
Due to reduced blood supply skin or fat necrosis may occur , which will required a correction reoperation under local anesthesia .
Possible hematomas may appear which may required a reoperation.
During the transfer of the areola certain cutaneous nerves are dissected causing reduction of the areola’s sensation .
If the patient’s healing process is normal , the scars will be hardly noticeable. But if there is a disorder in the healing mechanism of the patient this may result in a pathological scar , which can be wide, hypertrophic or keloid . In such a case there are many options for improving the scar.,most importantly adherence to the doctor’s instruction by the patient. To improve a pathological scar we have the ability to do several things , but important role is the adherence to the instructions by the patient.
